R. D. & S. H. National College and S.W.A. Science College

​We welcome you to this distinguished institution with a proud legacy spanning 76 years. More than just a College, it stands as a monumental contribution to the nation-building efforts of India. It is the very first establishment of the Hyderabad (Sind) National Collegiate Board, which today governs around 25 esteemed colleges. A bit of College History In alignment with the Education Policy of 1972, R. D. & S. H. National College established the Junior College wing in 1974. The section is registered with Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Pune since academic year 1974-75 for conducting teaching at 10+2 Higher Secondary Level. It consists of Standard 11 (First Year) and Standard 12 (Second Year). In time, additional divisions including Self-Financed divisions were started by the College to meet popular demand. Subjects like Information Technology for Science and Commerce Streams and Bifocal Vocational subjects like Computer Science and Electronics for Science Stream are offered by the College to meet popular demand. Seats in Information technology in the Commerce Self-Financed, were increased to accommodate the increasing demand for the subject. Currently, Junior College comprises of two divisions for Arts, five of Commerce, and six for Science streams The founding Principal of this College Vidyasagar K. M. Kundnani was a visionary from the Sindhi community—one of the many migrants who arrived in Mumbai (then Bombay) with a singular purpose: to establish an educational haven for future generations. This college enjoys minority status and reserves a number of seats for students from the Sindhi community, while still upholding academic merit by offering open category seats filled purely on merit. Activities The College believes that education must extend beyond textbooks. That’s why the College hosts a wide array of extracurricular activities to channel your energy and offer you real-world exposure. Initiatives like the Tutor Committee bring together parents and students to review academic performance and attendance, ensuring transparency and engagement. To nurture artistic talents, the college organizes its flagship cultural festival, Goonj—a vibrant platform for students to showcase skills in theatre, singing, dancing, fashion, and more. Over the years, many distinguished personalities have visited our campus to share their journeys with students, including film stars like Rajkummar Rao and Aamir Khan, as well as respected leaders such as the late President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Union Minister Mr. Nitin Gadkari. Workshops are organized on regular basis to abreast our students and faculties with the latest knowledge and to enhance their employability skills. The progressive management, the enthusiastic faculty and students who are the ambassadors of the college strongly believe in the motto of the college, “PLAY THE GAME”, and are working in a direction to take the institution towards accomplishing its mission and vision statements, reflecting the ideology of our founders The students are also exposed to the world outside its curriculum by conduction of Industrial /Institutional Visits, Guest Lectures by eminent personalities and by the introduction of skill-based programs. The college has collaborations with some industries and corporate houses. Organizing frequent Health Check-ups for staff and students; setting up Covid Vaccination Drives for all our students; arranging Blood Donation Camps in the challenging and testing times on the campus to help the diseased; Offering Relief work at an Adopted Village Pansai, Dist. Raigad by the NSS Unit along with providing an Educational Support; distribution and promotion of Khadi Masks to support the ideology of our Hon’ble Prime Minister and his voice of an Atmanirbhar Bharat and the Vocal for Local scheme. Tutor System, which establishes a bond of academic exposition among the students and faculty. Tutor System helps the College in assessing the feedback of the students and the parents. Environment initiatives of the college with curriculum-based projects promote research culture amongst the students. Grievances of students are addressed through instruments like the Inward System and  Tutor System, etc. House System, NSS, Nature Club and Sports which inculcate the values of team spirit, Community service and camp experience. They shape the personality of the students and sensitise them towards the less privileged. Cultural Forums like the Arts Forum, Marathi Vangmay Mandal, Science Association, Commerce Association, Sindhi Sahit Sangat, and similar others which expose the students to the Indian cultural ethos. A strong student- connect which ensures the involvement of our biggest stakeholders. All activities through these forums and several others are geared to instil cultural, intellectual and moral responsibilities which help shape the character of every student. Infrastructure and Facilities The college provides every single facility which a student needs for his/her academic, social, physical and moral development. We expect that the students of this college make fullest use of the available facilities. Our campus infrastructure is one of our greatest strengths. It includes a spacious compound, an air-conditioned auditorium, a multi-utility indoor games complex, a basketball court, a well-stocked library, and state-of-the-art laboratories. We also conduct on-campus recruitment drives by inviting reputed companies, empowering students with valuable career opportunities. Several short-term courses and in-house internship programs have been introduced. An advanced art, sound and editing studio adds to the many feathers on our cap. We introduce our students to some of our significant ingenuities include the installation of a Water Recycling Plant and also adopting Rainwater Harvesting; establishing and flourishing a homegrown Medicinal Garden and Strip Garden in our campus; installing Solar Panels to promote energy conservation. Each classroom is equipped with complete secure campus-wide Wi-Fi connectivity and digital projection facilities to enhance learning. A language Lab and English Proficiency courses cater to the needs of first generation learners and students from vernacular medium of school education. The College is a part of large conglomerate of fourteen prime educational institutions in and around Mumbai, as well as, has established networks with neighboring institutions and other institutions of repute. This helps the college in providing further avenues to its students for exposition of theory. Vision and Mission Working towards its vision and mission statements, the college lays great emphasis on the all-round development of all its students. While academic excellence is encouraged and rewarded, a variety of extra-curricular activities conducted by the institution enable the students to explore their capabilities and is a step towards the holistic development of the students' personality and confidence. Students of both, Junior and Degree College, participate in academic and other activities of the college every year under the guidance of its caring and supportive staff. The college strongly believes that one of the most important aspects of higher education is to create an individual who can contribute to national growth through self-learning. Campus Induced Placement Process and Curriculum-Intense Inter-collegiate departmental festivals are some student-intense steps in the direction of self-learning. The college is aware of its social responsibilities and caters to work in this direction by promoting amongst all students a culture of community service.
